Pungarehu is the Dow AgroSciences Taranaki Top Club for 2013. The Coastal minnows came through on a countback after the four strong side tied with Westown on 141 stableford points for the 18 hole event. The winning Pungarehu scores were (Jordy Barrett 32, Len Adamson 30, Robert Billing 43, Sharon Adamson 36) while the Westown score were ( Max Maaka 30, Alan Foster 40, Matt Arden 38, Karen Pattison 33).

A field of 80 players teed it up in the Tag Oil Egmont Championship at the Stratford Golf Club on Sunday. The 36 hole men’s championship was won by Sam Jones (76-72-148) from Manaia who defeated Opunake’s Aarun Langton (77-71-148) with a birdie on the first hole of a sudden death play-off.

A field of over 60 players have entered the Egmont Championships to be played at the Stratford Golf Club on Sunday. Around 40 players will compete in the 36 hole championship event with the balance playing in an 18 hole tournament.

Taranaki’s more senior golfers hit the fairways this weekend with the Spicers Taranaki Masters and Seniors Championship being hosted by the Fitzroy and New Plymouth Golf Clubs on Saturday and Sunday.

The Taranaki Golf Centre Pumas will be the favourites to take out the inaugural Bunnings Taranaki Golf senior men’s invitational matchplay competition when they take on the Taranaki Hardcore Rebels in the final at New Plymouth on Sunday.

New Plymouth golfer Murray Martin has been selected in the New Zealand Senior (55 and over) men’s team to compete against Australia for the Sanctuary Cove Trophy. Martin (60) will make his fifth appearance at the event which will be played at the Sanctuary Cove Golf Club in Queensland from 9th-11th September.

The top two teams in the Bunnings Taranaki Golf senior matchplay competition have been finalised. The Taranaki Golf Centre Pumas and the Taranaki Hardcore Rebels will meet in the final regardless of the results of the final round robin matches to be played at the New Plymouth Golf Club on Sunday.
