A field of 160 golfers competed in the New Plymouth Golf Club Open Christmas Hamper. Former Taranaki representative Steven Heyes recorded the best gross score with a two under par 70 edging out father Colin and Brian Rowland by a shot. Other leading stableford scores in the 18 hole event were: Senior men- Graham Hills 44, Ken Sykes 42, Trevor Simpson 42; Junior-Wade Perrett 49, Greg Jans 45, Gary Crawford 43; Women – Gross- vanessa Bouvet 78, Stableford-Valmai McEldowney 40. The  highlight of the day was a hole in one on the 145 metre par three sixth hole by the New Plymouth Golf Club senior matchplay champion Stephen McIntosh.

 

99 players including 16 women competed in the Waitara Golf Club Last Chance tournament on Saturday. The best gross score of the day went to John Garner with an even par round of 67 while Mike Foster took out the senior net with a 60 and Gary Thomson the best stableford with 40 points. In the intermediate division, Charlie Kemp had the best net with a 59 and Chris Smith the best stableford with 43 points. The best net in the junior division went to Neville Rawlinson with a 59 and Jeff Klenner had the best stableford with 40 points. In the women’s division Maree Van Praagh won the best net with a 65 while Jen Newton took out the stableford with 46 points.

 

The New Plymouth Golf Club hosted the annual Arnold Palmer Junior Open on Sunday. The winners of the Arnold Palmer teams trophy was the Westown team of Thomas Jansen, Monty Burmester and Tyler O’Leary who scored an aggregate stableford total of 107 points. The best gross score went to Fletcher Broderick with a three over par round of 75 and the best stableford went to Thomas Jansen with 43 points. The best 9 hole score went to Dillin Plimmer with a gross score of 48 while Harry Allen took out the best 6 hole division with a gross score of 38.

 

106 players competed in the Tumahu Golf Club’s Glassman Open Christmas Hamper. The best net in the senior men’s division went to Ray Hayward (71-11-60) and Bruce Sim took out the best stableford with 44 points. In the intermediate division, Len adamson (75-14-61) won the best net andNRex Bridgeman the best stableford with 45 points. In the junior division Noel Sharpe (87-28-59) recorded the best net with John Vanderpoel taking out the best stableford with 47 points. The best net in the women’s division went to Sharon Adamson (78-11-67) and Dianne Williams won the best stableford with 40 points
