Men's Handicap Pennant Final 2015

Eltham defeated Manaia 5-4 to claim the Men’s Handicap Pennant for 2015. The two teams met at Te Ngutu golf club and fought out a closely fought contest with the Central Taranaki side just coming out on top. Eltham took a 2-1 lead in the morning foursomes, but Manaia fought their way back in to contention winning two of the first three afternoon singles to tie the match up at 3-3. A comfortable 5/4 win for the Eltham no1 and team captain Jaren Otene edged Eltham back in front, but Manaia’s Andrew Gibson levelled it up again with a 4/2 victory playing a no3. Despite clawing his way back from being 5 down to only 2 down, Manaia’s Michael Sharp eventually went down 3/1 to Paul Hawkes to give Eltham their second title in the Men’s Handicap Pennant. Credit should go to both sets of players for the spirit in which the match was played, and to the host club Te Ngutu for presenting their course in an outstanding fashion.
