With the foresight of a group of local residents in 1932, the foundation for the Te Ngutu Golf Club was formed and within 2 months boasted an initial closed membership of 60 keen golfers.

The final round of sectional play in the Dow AgroSciences Men’s handicap pennants takes place this weekend and several teams will have their calculators and slide rules out as seven of the eight places for the quarter-finals are still up for grabs. Stratford hosts the Taranaki wide section and in Division1 holders Waverley will need at least a draw against the host team Stratford to guarantee a quarter-final place.

The Waimate Plains Championship takes place at Manaia this Sunday. This is the second Crowded House Taranaki Tour event of the year. At the time of writing this article only a few of the provinces leading golfers have been confirmed as starters. It is hoped that there will be an influx of late entries –a typical Taranaki trait-so that this long standing event receives the support it deserves

Five Taranaki Golfers have headed over to Hastings to play in the 72 hole New Zealand Stroke Play Championships beginning at the Bridge Pa Golf Course today. Taranaki Men’s No1 amateur Brad Hayward will be looking for a strong performance following his recent excursions over to Australia.   He will be joined in the Men’s championship by fellow New Plymouth golfer Zach Lewis. Whilst in the Women’s event the Winter Sisters (Holly and Tyla) from Te Ngutu and Manaia’s Celeste McLean will be flying the flag for Taranaki.
