Opunake Golf Club

We are approximately three kilometres north of Opunake up the Namu Road. Our course is an eighteen hole course with sheep grazing the fairways. It is tree lined with sea and mountain views and is reasonably  flat with the occasional lahar mound thrown in for interest.  Mens and ladies par is 71 with the mens course 5309 meters and ladies 4809 meters.

A field of over 60 players have entered the Egmont Championships to be played at the Stratford Golf Club on Sunday. Around 40 players will compete in the 36 hole championship event with the balance playing in an 18 hole tournament.

Taranaki’s more senior golfers hit the fairways this weekend with the Spicers Taranaki Masters and Seniors Championship being hosted by the Fitzroy and New Plymouth Golf Clubs on Saturday and Sunday.

Waverley Golf Club is situated only 5 minutes from the Waverley township or 30 minutes from Wanganui or Hawera.  It is a challenging, undulating course.  The club is small but very social and visitors are welcome at anytime.  Great views of all mountains on a clear day make for a special outing.

Manukorihi Golf Club

Manukorihi is a challenging but fair 18 hole championship course with a par of 72.  The course provides a park like easy walking environment that features fairways lined with many native & deciduous trees. A great view of Mt Taranaki can be had from most holes.

In 2012 the committee proposed to change the playing order of the holes. This was accepted by the club members and the changes went into force on the opening day of the 2013 season.

The Taranaki Golf Centre Pumas will be the favourites to take out the inaugural Bunnings Taranaki Golf senior men’s invitational matchplay competition when they take on the Taranaki Hardcore Rebels in the final at New Plymouth on Sunday.

Kaitake Seniors Monthly Tournament:

The August  tournament was postponed on August 12 and was rescheduled on August 19.

A total of 61 players (9 ladies) turned out on a fine day.

Scoring was low overall - with the mens monthly button being won by Merv Dew with 40 stableford points. The Ladies button was not contested.

Results are as follows:

Ladies: Sharyn Newsome (Fitzroy) 35 points, Pauline Gray (Kaitake) 34 points, helen Beaurepaire (Urenui) 32 points.

New Plymouth golfer Murray Martin has been selected in the New Zealand Senior (55 and over) men’s team to compete against Australia for the Sanctuary Cove Trophy. Martin (60) will make his fifth appearance at the event which will be played at the Sanctuary Cove Golf Club in Queensland from 9th-11th September.
