The Taranaki team for next month’s Women’s Masters Interprovincial Tournament has been selected following recent trials. Trialists competed in 8 rounds of Gross Stableford with the best 6 rounds counting for the four available spots in the team. The team in playing order is: Svala Garner – Urenui, Debbie McCallum – Te Ngutu, Joanne McDonald – New Plymouth and Ann Braithwaite – Te Ngutu. This year’s event is being hosted at the Inglewood Golf Club from 6th – 8th April. Teams from 14 provinces will compete over the 4 days playing 4 rounds of gross stableford with the best 3 individual scores from each round counting for the team score.

 

A field of over 90 golfers enjoyed near perfect playing conditions at Stratford Golf Club last Sunday for the Vanburwrays Taranaki 5000. The best overall net went to Strathmore junior golfer James Smithson with an impressive 82-24-58. Best Gross went to Opunake’s Aarun Langton with a 4 under par 68. Te Ngutu’s Julie Cleaver 99-30-69 had the best net in the ladies division with Carolyn Davidson – Patea 40 points 1st Stableford. 1st Net Seniors, Zach Lewis – New Plymouth 71-4-67, 1st Stableford, Mike Owen - Fitzroy 40 points. Intermediates: 1st Net Steve Hemara – Fitzroy 80-14-66 and 1st Stableford Mike Earley – Fitzroy 41 points. Juniors: 1st Net Jamie Johnson – Te Ngutu 84-20-64 and 1st Stableford Brian Needham – Strathmore 44 points.

 

Former Fitzroy member and Taranaki representative Jamie Reid won the NZ Speed Golf Championships at Rotorua last month by just 21 seconds over NZ PGA professional Josh Longney. Played at Rotorua Golf Club over 2 days Reid had rounds of 77 on both days taking less than 47 minutes to complete both rounds. Reid completed the 2 days with a score of 245.53: 77 – 46’18” 77 – 45’25” to beat Longney 246.04: 78 – 45’08” 77 – 45’56”. Scores are calculated by adding the number of strokes with the total time taken to play the round.
